In order to use the Italy SIM Card your phone must be GSM, 900/1800 MHz and unlocked. If you do not own a GSM phone you can rent or buy one that was specifically meant for traveling and goes perfectly with your Italy SIM Card; it will also work with sim cards from hundreds of other countries.

How to Recharge Your Italy SIM Card:
When you buy the Italy SIM card, it comes with prepaid time (5 euro of prepaid time). When that runs out, you purchase more time at local tobacco store, news stands, etc. shops all over Italy, even at the airport when you land. This refill card is called a "Ricaricard" (pronounced ree-KAH-ree-kahrd). These Italy sim chip refills come in denominations of 25 or 50 euro (sometimes they are available in smaller amounts).
The refill card for your Italy SIM chip is a plastic card with a secret code under the ink on the back. Scratch off the silver covering the secret code on the card. For TIM, dial the toll free number on the refill card and then you are prompted in English (if your phone service has been set to English). Select the option to recharge the phone. Enter the secret code, wait for confirmation and you are all set. The information is downloaded to your phone. The process is very easy. It is used with all TIM SIM cards.

How Much Money Do I Have Left on the Italy SIM Card? You can call a number to find out your remaining minutes. For TIM, dial 4916.
Do These Italy SIM Cards Expire? The recharge card expires - the date is on the back.
If your Italy SIM Card is not RE-CHARGED at least once every 12 months, even with the minimum talktime, your Italy SIM card expires. If the Italy SIM card expires, you must purchase a new Italy SIM card (and that will give you a new phone number as well).
